I was told the Epicenter is better is that true?

ALL units have draw backs except the bassRESTOR. One unit being better than another is objective to the project and the expertise of the installer.

  • The fact is the Epicenter is obsolete. Not just due to lack of features and abilities but because of the price alone for what you get.
  • The Epicenter Micro was developed after the bassRESTOR because, well, the BassRESTOR is everything you need in one unit and selling a device that also needed an LOC was just not ideal. It still lacks due to lack of innovation and tunability.
  1. The Micro uses the same algorithmic form that the original Epicenter used. It requires that the signal meet a specific loss in audio and DB to engage. That means your tuning can be affected and the bass may seem less in songs that don't meet the pre-sets.
  2. Load detection is a must in 2023 so having to switch around till you get it right is just .. why?
  3. Audio sampling just the low end of the recording is great if you want minimal audio restoration and that's what you get.
  4. Voltage output pre-sets. The Epicenter Micro manual instructs you to set the output based on the sub size. That is completely wrong and one has nothing to do with the other.

  • In conclusion the bassRESTOR is an all-in-one dynamic restoration LOC that is also a line driver. That means you don't even need the gain on your amplifier to maximize its output to the sub.
  • The real time analyzation of the FULL audio input from the sources unit allows it to properly and accurately restore any missing or attenuated frequency in the recording.
  1. Unlike the Epicenter Micro the potentiometers on the bassRESTOR (WIDE,FREQ,EFFECT) allow you to not just select the effected range of DB repair but also allows you to boost the attenuation in that audio to gain thing like audio clarity, regain audible strength in the audio and other key features.
  2. Auto load detection is another must-have, along with the built-in gain. You can set it to the needs of the amplifier input to maximize the output to the subwoofer.
  3. The Multi function RLC controller is another great feature that allows control of not just the output voltage but the effect in real time and even turning off the effect for songs that have too much bass. (if that's even a thing).

What is a subsonic filter used for?

This is a filter that limits the low end of the frequency range passed on to the amp or the amp to the sub. The human ear can only audibly hear down to 20hz but you can feel frequency below that.

  • The majority of subwoofers do not play near that range of frequency. Trying to will create heat and distortion. Thus damaging your subwoofer and amplifier.
  • Setting your SUB sonic filter to the lowest frequency your sub can play is a great place to be.
I listen to a lot of old school rock or banda. Is this a good option and why?

This would be the best option not just for frequency restoration but for tuning and accuracy.

This illustration shows what the factory signal could look like when it has bass roll off. This is an attenuation in the audio signal that the radio outputs. This is to prevent damage to the factory speakers that are not designed to play in this frequency range at SPECIFIC volume levels.

The bassRESTOR analyses the FULL frequency range that its fed and in real time adds back any missing frequency. An even cooler feature is that it can do the same restoration with just a small fraction of the low end audio signal.

By correcting any deficiency in your audio you optimize and maximize the performance of your mono amplifier and thus your subwoofers output.

As shown by the graph the audio signal that was rolled off at 60hz and non-existing after 40hz. Has now been fully restored. By then using the EFFECT you can boost the signal from -5db to +1db. Here are a few benefits to that:

  1. Audibility: Increase in DB may make sounds more audible, particularly if they were previously too quiet. This is beneficial for music mixing or mastering to ensure all elements are heard clearly.
  2. Impact: Increasing the volume by +6 dB can add impact or emphasis to certain sounds or parts of a recording, enhancing the overall listening experience.
  3. Clarity: Boosting the selected frequencies by +2-6 dB can enhance clarity, making it easier to discern individual elements within the audio.
  4. Compensation: In some cases, a +2-6 dB increase may be used to compensate for losses in volume caused by equipment or transmission limitations in the vehicles equipment of source.
  5. Subjectivity: The perceived difference between +1 dB and -5 dB can also depend on individual perception and the specific characteristics of the audio content. In some situations, a subtle increase (+2 dB) might be preferred over a slight decrease (-3 dB) for maintaining the intended balance or impact of the sound.
